Dennis L. Northington

 

Prior to establishing his business and risk management consulting practice in 2001, Mr. Northington, a Certified Insurance Counselor and licensed Risk Manager, sold his interests in SWBC Insurance Services and its affiliated London  brokerage partnership. During his tenure and leadership with the agency, which began in 1989, he established the agency as a leading middle market agency based in San Antonio, Texas.

 

Mr. Northington focused on serving the insurance and risk management needs of both public and privately held organizations including a specialization in financial institutions. Other clients served were involved in energy, information technology, software development, telecommunications, manufacturing, hospitality, higher education as well as medical services.  Additionally, as a program administrator, Mr. Northington was instrumental in the development nationally marketed financial institution fidelity bond and management liability programs with two leading underwriters, The Hartford and Chubb.

 

In addition to building a multi-line retail insurance agency; Mr. Northington strategically established underwriting facilities with Underwriters at Lloyds, London to meet the portfolio risk management needs specific to financial institution clients. Within this capacity, he managed production, underwriting and claims programs for property, general liability and inland marine lines. Responsibilities included administration of underwriting authority, brokerage contracts, claims management as well as oversight of the design and integration of automated tracking, policy issuance and claims management systems.

 

As part of his commitment to meet client needs in all areas of advanced risk management and loss control, Mr. Northington also co-founded an electronic network security consulting company specializing in the delivery of advanced audits, network vulnerability assessments, intrusion detection and managed security services.

 

Prior to his move to San Antonio, Mr. Northington managed the sale and service of personal property & casualty products as well as life, health and annuity lines for the retail savings and mortgage bank clientele of the combined entities of Bright Banc, STM Mortgage and Dallas Federal Savings & Loan. In this capacity, he served as Sr. Vice President of Bright Insurance Services headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Responsibilities included promotion and marketing, sales and customer service management for insurance operations within the states of Texas, California and Kentucky. With a focus on new client development, cross selling and service excellence he led the agency's performance to significant levels of productivity, profit and growth while leading a team that served a client base of 18,000 policyholders.

 

A Texas native, Mr. Northington graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock where he received his Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1979 while attending the university on a golf scholarship. Following graduation, he joined The Hartford Insurance Group. He received the Hartford's "Distinguished Quality Award" as well as the Company's "Vanguard" performance excellence awards prior to making his move into independent agency management in 1984.

 

Following his tenure with The Hartford, Mr. Northington joined the The Mills Company and established two new insurance agencies for the company in Dallas, Texas and Newport Beach, California prior to joining the Bright group.
